Heading out the Merrimack River mouth for the morning bite yesterday |
We're back after a couple days on the coast striper fishing and we had a decent go at it. The bite was on and off with the first couple of hours of daylight offering the best action. Most of the action was just outside the Merrimack River mouth. Joppa Flats was pretty slow, but we still picked up some smaller fish there. Out front, we were finding plenty of fish in the 28-34" range gorging on sand eels and we were able to put some decent fish in the boat. We tied into an absolute cow yesterday right off the bat only to lose it right at the boat...dang! There truly is nothing like striped bass fishing and I can't wait to get back at it! If you're looking for a top notch striped bass guide on the North Shore of MA, please look up our buddy Reilly McCue at RPM Outdoors! you won't find a cooler individual to put you on the fish! some friends of ours fished with Reilly this week and had nothing but great things to say.
Our buddy Dan putting our version of the Guitar Minnow to work on some river smallies! |
Mike just returned from a guided trip with a great angler that managed to land close to 20 fish on a mix of dries, nymphs and buggers. Water levels are really starting to resemble seasonal flows and, with a warm streak of weather coming our way, please keep an eye on water temps. Our bigger rivers will start to creep towards that 70 degree mark with some hot days and warm nights.
We are really in prime time now for many different types of fishing thanks to the cooler weather patterns we've seen this year.
A couple decent fish from this week...
Man do I love these fish! |
Our buddy Kevin's striper trip started with some headaches but after a couple fish like this all troubles seem to go away! |
