The 2-Day "Learn to Fly Fish" School

This comprehensive 2 Day Program is absolutely the best method for learning the great sport of fly fishing.
In a relaxed setting, our Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guides will help you develop the skills that will bring you confidence as a fly fisher. Discover Vermont from the tranquil setting of a trout stream and see why so many people are hooked on fly fishing the Green Mountain State!

Included in Tuition:
- (1 day) non-resident VT fishing license (*3 day can be purchased for additional $20)
- Continental breakfast on both mornings
- Use of Orvis Fly Fishing Equipment and comprehensive instruction
- Transportation from venue

July 4th & 5th / August 22nd & 23rd - The Essex Culinary Resort & Spa

As Vermont's newest Orvis Endorsed Lodge, The Essex Culinary Resort & Spa is absolutely the perfect venue for our 2-day school! We're offering the school on 2 different weekends, so sign up and we'll see you there!

Day 1:
(8:30 a.m.) - Meet in The Essex main lobby for introductions & continental breakfast
(9:30 - 10:30) - Basic overview of fly fishing equipment, rigging and accessories
(10:30 - 11) - Essential knots to know
(11 - 12:30) - Fly casting instruction at The Essex trout pond
(12:30) - Break for lunch - end of Day 1

Day 2:
(8:30 a.m.) - Meet in lobby for continental breakfast & shuttle to fishing site
(9:30 - 10) - Suiting up into boots/waders; discussion of wading safety
(10 - 10:15) - Discussion on stream construction and where we find trout in the stream
(10:15 - 11) - Discussion on what trout eat and how to fish dry flies, nymphs and streamers; practice techniques
(11 - 11:20) - Ethical angling; how to hook, play and safely release fish
(11:20 - 12) - Break for picnic lunch
(12 - 1:30) - Guided fishing using newfound techniques; the goal during this fishing session is to practice and improve on different techniques
(2 p.m.) - Arrive back at The Essex

All of the fly fishing necessities will be provided for you on the outing including the use of Orvis fly rod outfit, waders, boots, terminal tackle, flies and a Vermont fishing license.
It is recommended that you bring the following items on your outing:
- Polarized sunglasses
- Sun block
- Bug spray
- Brimmed cap
- Any medications you require
- Camera
- Anything else that would make you more comfortable
